Hearts of Iron is just too big - fighting on two fronts the management becomes more hastle than game. I dunno, the game just seems to hit the mark for me. Theres always a clear route of progression and usually you have many events that arise that try to thwart your purpose. But also you never are sat wondering what to do next. You always feel you are playing in a roughly historical context. The limited scope of the game means it never becomes unrealistic fantasy like Hearts of Iron 2 and Europa Universalis. I think its the fact you have a limited scope - you are to fight everyone you meet to create an empire. Its not just the scalable rotatable attractive map or ongoing events that draw you in. Theres something about this game that appeals way beyond the normal Paradox titles. In my opinion Rome Total War is far better. If I were you I'd hold off buying this game for a while, if at all. 50% or less) Carthage rejected peace every time. Recently during my second war with Carthage, I had taken seven or eight provinces, including Carthage, and had a warscore of 51%, yet despite offering a number of different combinations of what were very generous settlements (i.e. Your leader, the consul, changes often and you have no say in the matter. I think the most frustrating element is the lack of control one feels. This can be avoided by holding shift, but it's not intuitive. For example, a ship travelling to another sea province, will have to repeat the ground it has already covered if you select another province that requires the ship to go through that original province. However, the actual game is rather frustrating, no doubt some of the minor issues will be fixed in later patches (I'm running 1.1) but there are a number of unrealistic outcomes of combat and movement. There's definitely potential within the game, the graphics are crisp and I like the development of the generals and consuls etc, with their own traits and family ties. They usually unify to form a couple of relatively large nations that are worth fighting. It adds some Gallic, Briton and Spanish nations. I could give it a try though, it looks interesting. Don't really like that.Īnother problem is that Epigoni is a mix of mods and that could explain why many users had problems with the game crashing. Also, it completely removes colonization mechanics if I'm correct. Egypt and Selucia are given some historical weaknesses (badly managed, lots of debt) but also seemingly gives every faction some 10-11 martial generals. It makes the game both easier and harder. It adds way more countries, events and even some resources (Olives, fruit, oils, etc). It gives an earlier start date that lets you do more of the Successor Wars with the Greeks and lets you play as a much smaller Rome.
