My assumption is that the HAL has some backend magic that is coming up with an 8Mhz clock source somehow but I have a hard time believing they would hide voodoo like this.ĮDIT: Solved. Well… I’m looking at STM32 HAL clock options that are configured to use HSE at 8Mhz and I have no idea where the source clock is coming from yet. You are supposed to do it yourself I guess? Problem is… while the 144pin Nucleo boards do have external OSC pins, but they do not populate the pads with an 8Mhz xtal. Everything works, peripheral clocks are correct from 3Mhz to 96Mhz depending on PLL 1/2/3 judging by successful async communication between other devices. Was just handed a STM32H723 mock-up, STM32Cube generated, the dev that set it up selected 8Mhz HSE as the PLL and FCLK source.
